Breast Cancer & Mammograms: What to Know
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, after skin cancer. Finding breast cancer early is critical because when found early, it is easier to treat! Ideally, adult women of all ages should perform a self breast exam monthly.
What symptoms should you look for??
- New lumb in the breast or underarm (armpit)
- Irritation or dimpling of breast
- Redness or flaky skin in nipple area
- Thickening or swelling in part of breast
- Nipple discharge other than breast milk
- Pain in breast
Keep in mind that these symptoms can happen with other conditions that are not cancer! If any symptoms arise, please contact our office and we will be happy to evaluate you.
In women over 40 years old, the best way to screen for breast cancer involves a mammogram. This is an X-ray picture of your breast. Some of the best things you can do to reduce your chances of breast cancer is keeping a healthy weight, engage in regular physical activity and limit alcohol intake.
