At-home Colorectal Cancer Screening Test

What is Colorectal Cancer?

Colorectal cancer affects men and women of all racial and ethnic groups.  It is mostly found in people who are 50 years old or older.  Screening for Colorectal cancer saves lives.  Staying up to date with your colorectal screenings can find precancerous polyps—abnormal growths in the colon or rectum—that can be removed before they turn into cancer.  Treatment for colorectal cancer is most effective when it is found at an early stage. Talk to your provider to see if you are due for a colorectal screening!

Screening at Inspired Health Group:

We support the screening of colorectal cancer as a preventative and life saving tool.  Your IHG provider can order a script for Cologuard, an at home screening kit for colorectal cancer.  If you are 45 and older, talk to your provider about colorectal cancer screening.  Your Inspired Health Group providers will determine if Cologuard is appropriate for you or what next steps you should take.  Patients that qualify for Cologuard should get screened every three years for colorectal cancer.

How to use your Cologuard kit:

Once you and your provider have determined that Cologuard is right for you, you will follow these steps to complete your at home screening:

1. Receive and unpack your Cologuard kit. Check and use before expiration date.
2. Place your sample container into the toilet bracket.
3. Use your Cologuard kit to collect your sample.
4. Scrape your sample, then fill the sample container with preservative.
5. Schedule a UPS pickup with the prepaid label. Ship your kit back to Cologuard the same or next day after collection.

How to return your Cologuard kit:

Plan to collect your sample when you can get it back to UPS that same or next day.  You can schedule to have your kit picked up by UPS or drop it off at a UPS location near you.  Remember, some locations are closed on Sundays or holidays.

When will your provider receive your results?

Test results are usually sent from Cologuard to your Inspired Health Group provider within 2 weeks.  You can conveniently view your test results 24/7 in your patient portal account.  Call our office today to activate your account.
